Unusual (En)Counters
One of the unique ways of human interaction is across a counter. The counter may be made of glass, marble or wood, but it is the stuff that the interaction is made of that prompts this post.
Unusual (En)Counter No.1
Getting a bus pass made is a subject most students who blog (and who get one made, obviously) would have written a post about (I know Jasmine did!). The people at the bus pass counter are unique specimens. They pride themselves in being the crusaders whose mission in life is to teach manners to the students (while conveniently forgetting their own) and ensuring that women do not try and break free from the traditional mould. Hence, it is advisable to dress in a simple salwaar kameez, put oil in your hair and speak in the softest tone using the humblest words possible or better still, act dumb! This way, the guy gets to show he is incharge and after bossing around finishes the work that is required of him. However, if you try and talk back to him or show any signs of personality, he only gets nastier and may send you back without the coveted buspass!
Unusual (En)Counter No. 2
I have a friend who has this habit of turning very nasty with people on the other side of the counter when they refuse to work the way she wants them to. I have witnessed two such showdowns and have been so terribly embarassed, almost wishing that I could disappear from the scene. Behaving the way she does has its advantages too. The lady walks away with the work done her way!
More when I remember .. or as new ones happen :)
